Cold laser therapy? It works!

This week, we’re going to focus on another service offered by Wisniewski Chiropractic that differs from traditional chiro care. Cold laser therapy is proven to speed up healing and eventually helps remove your pain.

The Thrive Wellness network is your one-stop shop for pain relief and pain management. We specialize in holistic and natural treatments, rather than simply filling you with medications.

Cold laser therapy is a techniques we specialize in. We’ll tell you how we do it, why we do it and what it means for you!

The science

A small, handheld device – the “laser” – is used to treat any specific problem area. It emits light to penetrate up to two inches below the skin (through the dermis, epidermis and fatty tissue). This light is non-invasive and doesn’t cause any sensation of pain! Actually, this type of Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) is deemed “cold” because it doesn’t heat up tissue.

If you’re able to schedule multiple appointments in a short time span, repetitive cold laser treatments may be beneficial.

The idea behind the technique: light can “awaken” sensitive parts in each cell. This in turn can trigger the cell to repair itself naturally.

The best example comparable to this therapy is the process of photosynthesis seen in plants. They absorb light, then eventually convert it into energy at a cellular level.

After light “kickstarts” the cell’s metabolism, it can naturally repair damage. Reductions in inflammation, pain and overall healing time are noted in the aftermath of effective treatments.

Treatment for various conditions

The light used by cold lasers is widely applicable to different types of cells. In theory, this should lead to a variety of treatable conditions, such as these:

  • Arthritis pain

  • Back pain

  • Tennis elbow

  • Carpal tunnel syndrome

  • Fibromyalgia pain

  • Postoperative healing

  • Knee pain

  • Neck pain

  • Muscle spasms

  • Bursitis

  • Muscle/ligament strains or sprains

  • Tendonitis

In addition to helping with specific conditions, cold lasers at different wavelengths can heal minor surface wounds.

A cold laser therapy routine for you

Many of these painful conditions also benefit greatly from chiropractic care! Cold laser therapy can be combined with traditional adjustments to fix your pain in both short-term and longer-term senses.

Don’t get the wrong idea: laser therapy isn’t an instant miracle.

More serious conditions, like some of those mentioned above, can require somewhere around 20 or 30 treatments spread over the course of a month or two in order to heal the area. The individual lengths of these treatments depends on your condition and the administering professional, but could be anywhere from one to five minutes per area.

Some patients can see relief in as little as eight to ten treatments. The medical professional who administrates the therapy may recommend continuation of treatment even after you feel noticeable improvements. This is because laser therapy is actually aimed at healing your pain completely over time, rather than masking or relieving it temporarily.
