Why it’s important to protect your back

No one is going to protect your back more than you. If you are suffering from any back or spine pain make sure to see a chiropractor ensure you are not damaging anything. There is a recent report that states that over 80 percent of Americans have suffered from back pains at one point in their lives.  At Wisniewski Chiropractic, we offer a variety of services that are customized to your back pains. We believe that you need to provide excellent care to the most critical, supportive part of your body, your back. You can keep your back healthy by having a good posture, stretching and sleeping.

Posture

Who has not sat in their desk chair improperly after a long day at work? We can all say we have and some more than others. Did you know that having a bad posture whether that be while sitting or standing can affect your back and health?  Having proper posture throughout the day will help you protect you from future back problems. Bad posture will lead to developing an anatomical change in your spine.

We can avoid having all these problems by maintaining proper posture. We can start by consciously thinking about having good posture while we walk, sit or lift heavy items. When doing everyday activities remember to keep your shoulders square to keep your spine balanced. Landing on your heel and then pushing off the front of the foot will help keep you balanced.

Stretching

Sitting all day at work can stiff up your backs muscles. Taking a couple of minutes in between your day to stretch your back muscles can help in the long run. If you are an avid exerciser you might want to incorporate an exercise program with that gives the muscles in your back the flexibility and relieve the tension.

Some simple exercise you can do are:

  1. Shrugging your shoulders

  2. Horizontal Knee Twists

  3. Wall Sits

Sleeping

Yes, protecting your back can be as comfortable as sleeping. Sleeping can help you maintain a healthy back and prevent yourself from developing chronic pains. If you find your back hurting after a night sleep, it might be time to invest in replacing your old mattress. Mattresses that are older than ten years will have lost support that will keep your whole body balanced. Speaking of balanced, your pillow provides support to your head. Having an old, unsupportive pillow can take a toll on your neck and cause you back pains. These simple tips are sure to ensure you wake up refreshed and not in pain.

If you are having back trouble or pains, it might be time to schedule an appointment with a chiropractor. A chiropractor will specifically help you target your problem and alleviate the pain, whether that be through a massage or spinal alignment.
